Discover The Desert
The Draa River, stretching over 1,000 km, originates near Ouarzazate and winds through mountains, palm groves, and desert landscapes before reaching the Atlantic Ocean near Tan-Tan. For centuries, it has connected the Berber communities of the mountains with the nomadic tribes of the Sahara.
This remarkable region offers some of the most breathtaking landscapes in Morocco, including the majestic Erg Chegaga, the spectacular Erg Zahar, and the peaceful dunes of Sidi Naji.
Erg Zahar – The Howling Dune
Known as the Great Dune, Erg Zahar is one of the most impressive natural wonders of the Moroccan Sahara. Its name, meaning "The Howling Dune," comes from the unique sound produced when strong winds move the sand across its slopes. Rising to approximately 150 meters in height, Erg Zahar dominates a dramatic lunar-like landscape where vegetation disappears and endless sand takes over. The atmosphere here is truly magical and perfectly captures the spirit of the desert.
Sidi Naji
Most of our desert treks begin in Sidi Naji, a serene area where golden dunes are dotted with tamarisk trees that provide welcome shade for travelers.
Sidi Naji was a respected marabout whose tomb still stands in the region today. Visitors can also discover traces of an ancient marketplace, a reminder of the vibrant trade routes that once crossed the desert.
Erg Chegaga
Erg Chegaga is one of the largest and most beautiful dune systems in Morocco. Reaching it requires either several days of trekking or an exciting 4x4 expedition across the Sahara. The name Erg Chegaga can be translated as "the summit surrounded by waves of dunes." Some dunes reach heights of nearly 300 meters, offering spectacular panoramic views over the endless desert. Several permanent desert camps are located nearby, allowing visitors to enjoy the beauty of the Sahara while benefiting from comfortable accommodations.
