Experience an unforgettable desert adventure from M'Hamid El Ghizlane through the spectacular dunes of Erg Zahar and Erg Chegaga, the two most beautiful and iconic ergs of the Moroccan Sahara.
This unique trekking route connects the village of M'Hamid to the majestic dunes of Erg Chegaga, crossing vast sandy landscapes, tamarisk groves, desert wells, and remote nomadic territories.
A journey designed for nature lovers and adventure seekers, offering exceptional panoramic views of the Sahara and opportunities to meet nomadic shepherds living in harmony with the desert alongside their flocks.
DAY 1 - Transfer to M'hamid - Night in fixed bivouac.
Departure day to reach M'Hamid, last village before the desert.
During the transportation day, the journey begins. Between the Atlas Mountains and the visit of Ait Ben Haddou (UNESCO Site near Ouarzazate) , the road is beautiful and the change of scenery begins.
Arrival at the fixed camp is planned for early evening for take warm shower and enjoy first sunset than is dinner with local flavors among the dunes and a comfortable night in bungalows with comfortable beds.
DAY 2 - Walk to Sidi Naji marabout and nomadic bivouac under the stars
After breakfast, meet your desert guides & camel caravan when the camels are loaded with your luggage / equipment. Your guides will also help you to wrap your turban, ideal protection in the desert. after The trek begins on foot from the fixed bivouac. Accompanied by a camel caravan and a Bedouin team, the crew begins its journey in the desert towards Sidi Naji(By the way, sidi Naji is my great-grandfather) , where a famous marabout (the shrine of a holy man) lived more than a century ago. The landscape takes place, from scattered dunes to tamarisk groves.
Discover the organization of Bedouin life, the wood collected for the fire, the establishment of camp and the softness of the sunset, After setting up camp there, we will spend the evening around the fire, to the sound of nomadic songs.
DAY 3 - Walk to Erg Zahar and nomadic bivouac under the stars.
After breakfast, camp is struck, and the day’s goal, the large, remote sand dune region, of Zahar, will be reached . Today’s trekking terrain is largely flat, plateau-like earth (a dried lake) which gradually transforms into rolling sand dunes, with far less vegetation visible today. Camp is established at the foot of the tall dunes, between dunes, and lunch is served. and your afternoon is given to exploring Zahar, reaching the highest point to enjoy the wide-reaching views across the ‘erg’ (sand sea) and then the sunset. Zahar is also known as the ‘screaming dunes’, for a legend that tells of a village buried beneath the sands there, the trees become rarer and the kingdom of sand takes place , The landscape is lunar and the large dune stands out on the horizon. At its summit there is a breathtaking 360° view of the Sahara, framed by the Algerian mountains.
DAY 4 - The beginning of a four-wheel drive journey to the heart of the desert erg smar - erg chagaga
At breakfast, it's time to say goodbye to the camels who were the faithful companions of this trek. The latter will return on foot with their camel driver while a 4x4 continue the journey to erg smar (where, once, up to was families lived and farmed the land). The size of the Draa river bed is astonishing, given it now runs dry following the constction of the Ouarzazate dam., but once flowed in abundance through the desert Water does still run deep underground here and there is a well on the banks of the dried river where you will replenish the water supply (and freshen up with a quick shower). after lunch we will be in erg chagaga . This majestic dune of approximately 300m is the largest in the region. weher you can enjoy suneset
you have the choice on last night in the desert we can have night in a nomadic bivouac or normal bivouac or luxury bivouac in the heart of the dunes,
DAY 5 - Return by 4x4 to the fixed bivouac and transfer to the departure city
At breakfast, it's time to say goodbye to chagaga . The return road passes through the sacred oasis, an island of greenery in the middle of the desert, and through the valley of thirst.
Then the return transfer joins the city of origin for a late arrival in the evening

where Our luxury camp in the Sahara desert is located in M’zouaria, 7km from the village of M’hamid.
The camp is ideally located in the desert. You can enjoy the surrounding golden dunes of the Sahara. You can relax, walk around the camp, take a camel ride activity.
The sleeping tents at Camp are comfortably furnished with a king-size bed or twin beds, these rooms come with linens and blankets (including one family tent). There is a shower and toilet facility, with hot water. At this campsite there is also a large dining tent and plenty of outdoor space for relaxation and enjoyment around the campfire. In warmer conditions we can dine outside and soak up the beautiful night sky.
Evening entertainment is around the campfire after dinner – feel free to sing, play drums, read poetry or even tell a few tales.
Day 2 – night in fixed luxury camp chigaga
After breakfast, meet your desert guides & transport 4×4 are loaded with your luggage/equipment. Your guides will also help you to wrap your turban, ideal protection in the desert and the day’s goal, the large, remote sand dune region, of chagaga, will be reached ,You will experience a Bedouin desert camping trip in Camp chagaga (‘al erg’ meaning dunes). desert camp is located at the base of the remote dunes of Erg Chigaga. This is the longest erg (sand sea) in Morocco and well off the beaten path in the Iriqui National Park.
The camp is encircled by smaller, rolling dunes for shelter, which offers a great vantage point to watch the sunrise/sunset. The tallest of the dunes in Erg Chigaga and enjoy sandboarding,

Day 3 Lake Iriqui Foum Zguid
After breakfast, enjoy a relaxing morning and exploring the dunes by foot. Leave the camp and drive out of the desert in the opposite direction to how you arrived, i.e. north-west. Drive off-road across the desert for 90km to the town of Foum Zguid, via arguably some of the finest remote scenery in Morocco (including the vast dried salt flats, at Lake Iriqui, the imposing mountain ridges of the Jebel Bani and Madouar canyons, and acacia tree groves). You will also cross vast fossil beds, stopping to make a fossil hunt.
We’d suggest picnic lunch , to eat en-route, or take lunch at camp befoare setting off. Spend the night at Foum Zguid at Bab Rimal guest house.
DAY 4 – Return by 4×4 to the fixed bivouac and transfer to the departure city
After breakfast, meet your desert guides & transport 4×4 are loaded with your luggage/equipment, it’s time to say goodbye and return at riad / hotel (or airport) in Marrakech

Please ensure to carry Moroccan Dirhams for your local extras. ATMs are found throughout big towns.
Blankets & sheets are provided at the fixed desert camp, and blankets only on desert treks (please bring a 2 or 2-3 season sleeping bag for desert trekking Nov-March);
A small, sealable plastic bag to protect phones and camera from desert dust;
Sun protection (cream, hat, sunglasses, scarf for the neck);
Trekking sandals (with socks) or trainers for the desert – we advise against walking boots;
Canvas walking shoes or canvas boots for the mountains (for the foothills, even trainers) – we advise against heavy leather walking boots;
A fleece or jacket for the desert evenings – bear in mind with the heat of the sun in the daytime, it will feel cold at night by comparison (December- February particularly so) – however, a campfire is always lit;
Comfortable, loose clothing in the day, especially for the driving days in the car – pack clothing that you can layer easily and don’t mind getting a bit dusty (unless you plan to visit very upmarket restaurants/hotel bars you won’t need to dress formally in the cities);
A personal travel kit of Imodium, antihistamine, painkiller, rehydration powders, insect repellant, support bandage, plasters (band-aid), blister plasters, antiseptic wipes, dressing, hand gel, eye drops, lip balm;
Motion sickness tablets (if you might suffer with car sickness on the winding roads across the Atlas mountains, and across the desert terrain);
A small torch/head-torch (there is lighting at the desert camp and candles on trek);
Electric point adapter – plug points are two-pronged as per Europe – and (purely a suggestion) external power bank/spare batteries;
Spare plastic bag to put garbage in (necessary on treks – ideally transport your own litter out of the desert, or hand it to your trek guide).
Wifi and staying connected
You can expect to find wifi at the guest houses we use on the tours.
There is no wifi service in the Sahara desert. If you have an urgent need to stay connected you should buy a SIM card from network operator Orange. You should be able to find an Orange outlet in the Marrakech medina on Boulevard Mohamed V, or near the Place Ferblantiers. Alternatively at the Almazar shopping centre which is out of town.
Sometimes, free SIM cards are handed out at the Marrakech airport. These won’t work in the desert (only the Orange network works through the Iriqui National Park/Erg Chigaga region
Food
We do ask you to specify any special dietary requirements to us.
On trek and at camp in the desert, you will eat very well indeed-the emphasis is on fresh vegetables & fruit, tagines (meat/vegetable), soup, salads, bread, and lots of mint tea
For trekking, you may consider bringing your own snacks/energy bars if you like to snack on-the-go. You certainly won’t go hungry though
At your guest houses, expect the same sort of meals- usually on half-board basis at guest houses there is no a la carte’ choice for your evening meal but you can expect to eat three-courses, all home-cooked of course.
Lunch en-route is inexpensive (approx. 100dh pp) for kebab skewers, salad, drink or tagine, drink.
Your driver
He is experienced and knows the roads (and desert terrain) exceptionally well. He is your travel companion and route guide. Please feel free to ask him to stop whenever you need to and don’t be afraid to ask him questions-after all, you’ll be spending a few hours in the car together and this is a great opportunity to exchange cultural insights (from both sides). He does know the best places for comfort breaks, snacks, views and photos
Currency
The Moroccan currency is the Dirham (MAD) and is a closed currency (although it may be possible to purchase it at certain airport forex desks). We recommend that you simply use an ATM on arrival (at the airport or in town), or change USD, GBP or Euro at a bureau de change. There will be ATMs in towns on tour (e.g. Ouarzazate, Agdz, Zagora, marakkech).
You shouldn’t need to carry large amounts of cash with you (just to cover lunch, drinks, souvenirs, etc). Credit cards may be used in city riads/hotels, upscale restaurants/bars and large shops. Rural shops, cafes, and small guest houses will only accept cash, preferably Dirhams or Euro

Joyful and in love with their space, they will pass on to you their attachment to their roots and their good humor.
Everyone has their specialty and they will take turns wearing multiple hats.
From cooks mastering the art of tagines, they will also become bakers experts in baking bread directly on embers.
Guide during the day, finding their way on any dune, they are also camel drivers, friends of dromedaries.
And when the evening comes, they are all bon vivants who will transmit joy and songs.
They will take great care of you and will enchant evenings by the fire with their traditional songs.

Discover the Magic of rg Chigaga is made up of several ergs and it is the largest golden sand dunes in Morocco and africa , Erg Chigaga can be an excellent destination for people who want to see the real Sahara during their stay in Marrakech. Known for its high sand dunes, Erg Chegaga is located in the Draa-taffilalt region, about 45 km from th town of M’hamid and 98 km from the provincial town of Zagora. They are the largest golden sand dunes in Morocco, winding along the horizon for about 35 km with a peak at 300, meters.
